Cocktails with a Curator

Every Friday evening at 5PM a curator from the Frick discusses a piece of art work in their collection and selects an appropriate drink to match with the art. This portrait of Julia- Lady Peel was painted by one of the great portrait artists of his time, Sir Thomas Lawrence. The stunning array of bracelets Lady peel has stacked on her arm inspired the curator, Aimee Ng, to choose the Bijou as the cocktail to serve during her lecture. the Bijou was created by Harry Johnson who is considered to be the father of modern bartending. The recipe for this drink first appeared in the 1890s and consists of a combination of gin, sweet vermouth, and chartreuse. The 3 ingredients represent diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
